The Red Wings trailed by two goals with less than three minutes to go, but a beautiful wrister from Henrik Zetterberg and a late snipe from Niklas Kronwall forced overtime. Nearing the end of the sudden death frame, Justin Abdelkader picked the corner and won a thriller for Detroit, 4-3!

Score goals - It sounds basic, but it's true. Detroit has only five players with goals this year. Scoring needs to be spread out and everyone needs to contribute.

Power play must be better - Detroit hasn't scored a power play goal in three games. Get shots, retrieve rebounds, and get second and third chances.

Try to contain Crosby and Malkin - Easy to say, hard to do. Matchups against these two will be crucial.

Detroit has at least one point in five of its first six games, including a tough 2-1 overtime loss Tuesday against the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre. The Red Wings didn't get home until about 3 a.m. Wednesday and were given the day off by coach Mike Babcock. "We didn't get home till late, late, late," Babcock said. "I just thought I want energy [Thursday]. I didn't know what was right for sure. We wanted to clear a lot up in our game so we had a meeting here today. We dealt with our power play a little bit and we felt we can score a lot better by being harder, we haven't been. We're just trying to evolve our game so we did that." Detroit center Pavel Datsyuk made his season debut Tuesday and had one assist in 18:05 of ice time. "It's going to take him a bit," Babcock said of Datsyuk. "He's an elite player, but when you miss training camp it takes you some time. I don't care how good a player you are, the NHL is flying out there. [When] you come back and you're not up to pace it shows." Tonight, Pav will make his season debut on home ice as the Wings play host to the visiting Pittsburgh on Hockey Fights Cancer Night.
