As the Presidents' Trophy winners, the Boston Bruins have the home-ice advantage throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs. But that advantage lasts only as long as you're winning your home games, and the Detroit Red Wings tilted the Eastern Conference First Round series their way Friday with a 1-0 road win in Game 1 against the top-seeded Bruins. Now it'll be up to the Bruins to summon their experience and climb back into the series.

Red Wings: Detroit could use a little more offense. Their Game 1 goal, a beautiful shot on the rush from center Pavel Datsyuk, was barely a scoring chance. The Red Wings hardly made Boston goaltender Tuukka Rask work.

But when you have all-world players such as Datsyuk around to make big plays, maybe Detroit just needs to play the same exact game. After all, the defense seized the day.
"I thought we did a fairly good job of boxing out and playing quicker on the defensive side of things," defenseman Niklas Kronwall said. "In our zone when we got the puck we were able to get it out fairly quick, we were able to get the pucks deep and go after their defense instead. I thought overall it was a solid performance."

Assuming a better offensive performance from the Bruins in Game 2, the Red Wings will again need goaltender Jimmy Howard to outplay Rask.

Today, the Wings will look to take that Game 2 and take advantage of the series.

Welcome to the Detroit Red Wings Game Day Blog, where you can get behind-the-scenes information, thoughts from players and staff, and up-to-date news on anything and everything Red Wings on game day.
