Wings score their first shootout win of the year
Red Wings goaltender Petr Mrazek stopped three Devils in his first NHL shootout and forward Gustav Nyquist sealed the deal with a shot over the glove of Devils goalie Cory Schneider.

Get 'em early - The first game back after a long road trip is always tough on the home team. The Devils returned from western Canada on Wednesday, so the Wings need to get after them quickly.

Possess the puck - New Jersey is only averaging 2.36 goals per game. Jagr has 13 points and leads their team in scoring, but has just 1 point in his past 6 games. It is mportant to control the tempo of the game.

Take advantage of the power play - The Devils are 27th in the league on the penalty kill. We'll need to make them pay when they are in the box.

The Red Wings are coming off another stellar performance after defeating Philadelphia 5-2. Tonight the Wings are in New Jersey and ready to take on the Devils, who finally return home after going 1-2-1 on their recent road trip. In the first game between the Devils and the Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena, Jakub Kindl and Brendan Smith scored 33 seconds apart in the first period to highlight a 4-2 win. Jimmy Howard made 15 saves in the victory and Devils goaltender Cory Schneider was pulled after two periods after allowing four goals on 24 shots.

Pavel Datsyuk returned to the line up for the Wings Wednesday night, who missed four straight with a groin injury, and scored twice. “He’s incredible, stealing pucks, a couple big goals for us at key times when we weren’t at our best,” line mate Stephen Weiss said. “But when you have guys like that who can turn games pretty quickly, he’s fun to play with." Weiss continued his hot start Wednesday also, scoring a goal and picking up an assist on Datsyuk's second goal of the night.  

The Datsyuk, Helm, and Weiss line aim to stay hot in New Jersey tonight as the Red Wings look to win their third straight.
