Babcock
"I really believe we have played a lot of good hockey here of late, we haven't scored and let it in too easy. We have to keep building on our game and I think that's what we're doing. We've got a game here tonight against Carolina, Carolina plays fast and we've got to be prepared to go." - Mike Babcock

Play in the offensive zone - This is the so-called "fun zone". Generate offense by winning the battles, retrieving lose pucks and getting rebounds. Start scoring on a consistent basis.

Solid goalkeeping - Both Howard & Mrazek had good games over the weekend. The need to keep the puck out of the net is a must. The team also needs to help them out by playing well in front of him.

Seize the moment - Opportunity is knocking, but the door is closing. Take care of business. A win by Detroit tonight and an Ottawa loss in regulation sews up a playoff spot. The time is now!

Detroit has a chance to clinch a birth in the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs with a win and an Ottawa Senators loss in regulation to the Penguins Tuesday night. Detroit has dropped 3 straight home games and has an identical record with the Hurricanes, (their opponent in two of the final three games of the season) in their past 10 games (3-5-2). The Red Wings recalled forward Landon Ferraro from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League on Monday. Ferraro, who has 27 goals in 70 games in the AHL this season, could replace Justin Abdelkader in the lineup. Abdelkader did not play in a 2-1 loss to the Washington Capitals on Sunday after sustaining an upper-body injury blocking a shot Saturday against the Minnesota Wild. General manager Ken Holland said Abdelkader is likely out but could return before the regular season ends. Datsyuk, who played Sunday but has been dealing with a lower-body injury, will be a game-time decision.
