Detroit Red Wings vs. Anaheim Ducks
Coach Babcock said the same lineup will be in for Game 1 as it was down the stretch. |
“You have to play (Anaheim) hard, have to play them strong. You have to cut off their cycle early. You just got to slow them down.” |
“We don't go into it as a huge underdog. We think we're a good team.” |
“It’s no surprise that Pav and Z are our best players, they constantly are night in and night out. The same goes for (Perry and Getzlaf). Perry is one of those guys that has a nose for the net, and Getzlaf is |

“Both teams have some high-powered skill. At the same time, both teams play well defensively and don’t give up much.” |

Continue to Play Well Defensively - Detroit has given up just 14 goals in regulation in their last 11 games. Plain and simple, don't change a thing.
Best Players Need to Play Well - Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk combined for 18 points in the last 4 games. They came through when the playoffs were on the line. They need to continue their strong play into the playoffs.
Get Off to a Good Start - Sometimes in playoff hockey, the home team stumbles out of the gate in Game 1. The Wings need to get after the Ducks early. It's easier to play with the lead than playing catch up.

Detroit sends home the Minnesota North Stars winning 5-2 in Game 7 of the division semifinals.

This year has been an injury-filled transition year for the Red Wings, who squeaked into the postseason on the last game of the year, but none of that matters now; what matters is the Wings are in a 16-way tie for first and are the same number of wins away from hoisting Lord Stanley again as any team left standing. Tonight, they'll try to take one step closer by taking the opening game of the first round series against the Ducks.
