It wasn't pretty, but it's two points. The Wings lost a 1-0 lead in the third period, but Tomas Tatar made a filthy move to win this one in a shootout for Detroit, 2-1.

Thanks for tuning into our Game Day Blog...tune in Sunday when we take on Chicago!

David Legwand has been red hot this year, both before and after he came to the Red Wings. He's currently 28th in the NHL with 33 assists, and is averaging a point-per-game in his four contests with the Wings.

He's Detroit's 'Hot Wing' by Buffalo Wild Wings!

Darren Helm skated with the team this morning. He said
he's hoping to return next week, but it will be hard to
know for sure due to the uncertainty of a concussion.

Tomas Jurco is out tonight with a broken rib. He's going to be
taking it day by day and there's no timetable on his return.

it might be a month. I’m a young guy, so hopefully it’s
going to heal a little quicker."

Start Fast - The Oilers could be road weary playing their third game in four nights. They seemed to run out of gas last night in the third period against St. Louis. Detroit should be well rested and come out strong.

Limit Turnovers - No gifts tonight. Take care of the puck and play smart.

Have a Strong Third Period - Finish your opponent when leading in the final period. The Wings need to get the lead, close it out, and get two points.

Gordie Howe becomes only the second player in NHL history to score 500 career points. He did so against Gump Worsley of the New York Rangers.

The Red Wings will try to bounce back from a 4-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night. Detroit is gunning for a 23rd consecutive appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but it's going to have to overcome a rash of injuries in order to capture that coveted playoff berth.

"What are you going to do? No sense worrying about it," coach Mike Babcock said of his team's injury situation. "It's part of the business. We have to suck it up and find a way to win."

The good news is it's the Oilers coming to town tonight, who Detroit has had a great deal of success against in recent history. The Wings beat the Edmonton Oilers 5-0 on Nov. 2 in the only other game between the teams this season, and have won five straight against Edmonton. Tonight, they'll look to make it six.

Welcome to the Detroit Red Wings Game Day Blog, where you can get behind-the-scenes information, thoughts from players and staff, and up-to-date news on anything and everything Red Wings on game day.

You can watch tonight's 7:30 PM matchup on Fox Sports Detroit, or listen in with Ken Kal and Paul Woods on 97.1 The Ticket or AM1270.
