Comerica Bank Game Day Preview - Philadelphia
Philadelphia Flyers vs.
Detroit Red Wings

POSTED ON Saturday, 10.12.2013 / 12:05 PM

Win the Faceoff Battle - Detroit was not very good at this against Phoenix. Winning faceoffs allow a team to have possession of the puck and control the play.

Come Ready to Play - The Wings need to be focused and get off to a fast start. Go out, dictate the tempo, and try to get a goal early.

Limit Philly's Shots and Scoring Chances - Detroit allowed 38 shots on Thursday. That's way too many shots on Howie. They've got to play better in their own zone tonight.

After a 4-2 home loss to the Coyotes on Thursday, Detroit coach Mike Babcock shook things up at practice Friday, including the addition of forward Luke Glendening, a former player at the University of Michigan who likely will make his NHL debut.

Glendening, called up from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League, would center a line with Drew Miller and Jordin Tootoo (making his season debut after sitting out with a shoulder injury).

"[Luke is] a right-hand shot, ideally he'll learn to win faceoffs at our level, he'll learn to be a good penalty killer," Babcock told the Red Wings' website. "He might end up having to play on the wing for us one day because we have [Joakim] Andersson and [Darren] Helm down the middle, but we're going to give him an opportunity to help us."

Cory Emmerton was sent to Grand Rapids. According to the website, other changes included Todd Bertuzzi moving up to the top line withPavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg, Justin Abdelkader moving down to the second line with Stephen Weiss and Johan Franzen, and Daniel Alfredsson dropping to the third line with Andersson and Daniel Cleary.

"It can be good," Abdelkader said. "Hopefully we can get playing here, get everyone going. Sometimes it's good to change things up."
