The Flames got off to an early lead, scoring the only two goals in the first period. After a Johan Franzen goal in the second, the Wings had the momentum until Dennis Wideman's goal with 23 seconds left took the air out of the balloon. The Flames added one more in the third, so despite several great chances, Detroit couldn't find the back of the net. They'll give it another go on Thursday in St. Louis.

Thanks for tuning in to our Game Day Blog...we'll see you February 7th when we take on the Blues at 8:00 PM!

Penalty Kill Must be Better
- The Flames have at least one PPG in 5 of their 6 games and Detroit's given up a PPG in 6 games this year. They have to block shots, be smart, and clear the puck early and often.

Total Team Defensive Effort - With blueliner Brendan Smith out, the Wings will need some help on the back end from the new defensemen in tonight's lineup and from the forwards.

Generate More Offense - Even though he's struggled so far, Kiprusoff is a good goalie. The Wings need to get a lot of shots on net, screen the goalie, and work to create opportunities to score.
