Play Well in Front of Howie
- With defensemen Brendan Smith and Carlo Colaiacovo new to this year's lineup, the Red Wings have to protect Jimmy Howard by blocking shots and making good decisions in their own zone.

Get Shots Through to Blues Goaltender - Ken Hitchcock is notorious for coaching his players to block shots; the Wings need to move the puck well, get good shots and get them on goal, and work to get second and third opportunities to score.

Be Hard and Strong on the Puck - St. Louis plays a gritty style of game, so the Wings need to combat that by banging with the Blues. They have to do the dirty work: be aggressive on the forecheck, win the one-on-one battles, and go into the corners.

Zetterberg

.
“Everything will move faster, a smaller rink and a little more physical. But he is smart enough…it’s not like I’m worried how he will do. He is smart and will do the adjustment quick.”
– Zetterberg on Damien Brunner

   Howard

.
“It's going to be a lot of fun tonight. I'm looking forward to watching him. What a great way to break through in the NHL, playing on a line with Pav and Z.”

Jimmy Howard on Brunner

Brunner

.
“It's definitely fun to have the opportunity to play with a guy like (Datsyuk). Just try to get open out there and I'm pretty sure he will find me.”
Damien Brunner

   Babcock

.
“Bert’s got mono and when we talked yesterday we knew something was wrong...so he’ll miss a chunk of time.”
– Mike Babcock

Helm

.
“He’s got mono? Uh oh! I’m lucky I wasn’t kissing him…Hopefully he can fight off that virus or whatever it is quick and get back out here.”

Darren Helm on Bertuzzi

   Babcock

.
“Mursak’s in, Eaves is out (tonight). One guy hasn’t played hockey in a year…(Mursak) just went to Austria, he played great. He thinks like he’s a player in this league...here it is. Grab onto it. Hold on tight.”

– Mike Babcock

Helm

.
“I glided for a good half-hour, pushed off strongly a few times. It felt good, though. It didn't hurt at all skating…I think today was a good day.”

We’re back. After 9 long months, the Detroit Red Wings are back. Ken Daniels being marveled by the magic of Pavel Datsyuk night in, night out is back.  The ‘Mickey-isms’ like ‘Holy Jumpin’ and ‘Bingo Bango’ are back. Ken Kal yelling “Scoooooores!” at the top of his lungs is back. And all feels right in the world.

Welcome to the Detroit Red Wings GameDay Blog! Our goal is to give you behind-the-scenes information, thoughts and opinions from our players and staff, and up-to-date news on anything and everything Red Wings on gameday. Tonight, the Wings hit the ice against the reigning Central Division champion St. Louis Blues at 8 P.M.

You can watch tonight’s game on Fox Sports Detroit or listen live on 97.1 The Ticket or AM1270.
