Control the faceoff circle - Puck possession starts when faceoffs are won. It'll be a key part of pulling out a W tonight.

Get traffic in front - Detroit did well in this area last night. They need to get into these dirty areas to put the puck in the net.

Convert on the power play - The Wings were 0/5 last night with the man advantage. The power play needs to come alive and do a better job tonight.

The Red Wings battled the San Jose Sharks in their first matchup since eliminating the Sharks the year prior in the Conference Semifinals of the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs. A hard fought game riddled with penalties, the Red Wings won, 4-2.

The Red Wings won the first game of their home-and-home series against their Original Six rival the Toronto Maple Leafs last night at The Air Canada Centre in Toronto. Captain Henrik Zetterberg rebounded from a lackluster game against Boston, by having a hand in each of the Red Wings four goals scored.

"(Zetterberg) is the leader of our team and we expect him to be good. When he's not, we expect him to respond, and he did tonight” Coach Mike Babcock was proud of his Captain’s valiant effort after last night’s 4-1 victory over The Leafs.

“It’s a lot of fun. He’s a pretty good player, he was fantastic today” Gustav Nyquist shared the same sentiments about Zetterberg and its no wonder The Goose is having a good time; Nyquist has scored a goal in every game so far this season.

Zetterberg’s first two set-ups were beauties to Johan Franzen who left the game early with a lower-body spasm; Franzen, however, said he hoped to get back in action tonight as the Red Wings look to sweep up The Leafs in Detroit.

Henrik Zetterberg admitted his last game against Boston wasn’t his best, or close to it — tonight the captain made up for it. The Red Wings headed north of the border for the first game of their home-and-home series against the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Wings put on a show. Henrik Zetterberg assisted on all four of the team’s goals; the first two were masterful set-ups for Johan Franzen. Gustav Nyquist continued his scoring spree with a snipe late in the second period and by assisting Justin Abdelkader's second goal of the season in the third period. The Red Wings gave Jimmy Howard plenty of goal support and he continued to look good in goal by making 23 saves.

Thanks for tuning into our Game Day Blog… we’ll see you tomorrow night from The Joe!

Gustav Nyquist has been on a roll and it seems there’s no end in sight. Gustav has scored a goal in every game so far this season and with his goal in the third period of the 3-2 shootout loss to Boston on Wednesday night, Nyquist became the first Red Wings' player in 20 years to score 35 or more goals in his first 100 career NHL games.

He's today's 'Hot Wing' by Buffalo Wild Wings!
