Tomas Tatar has continued his torrid pace as of late. Tats has five points in his last four games, including two goals during that stretch which makes his 10th in the NHL in goals.

He's our 'Hot Wing' by Buffalo Wild Wings!

Coach Mike Babcock
Babcock
"We weren't very good the last game. We've got a big game here today. We just try to live in the moment here and get prepared for games."
- Mike Babcock

Jimmy Howard will be back in goal tonight,
his first start in over a month.

Howie says he's excited to get back and the solid play of Petr Mrazek has allowed him to get healthy as not to hurry back.

"Pete did a tremendous job for us for the whole month of January and a little bit here into February and it's put us into a good spot...
I just have to pick up where he left off."
- Jimmy Howard

Petr Mrazek

Mrazek will stay in as backup to Howie and his situation between Detroit and GR will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis.

Jonas Gustavsson will be a healthy scratch.

SPECIAL VALENTINES DAY EDITION!

Show no love - It's Valentines Day, but Detroit will need to rebound after a loss to Pittsburgh. Dictate the play.  Take it to the Jets.

Don't play the bakery game - In other words, don't make turnovers! Play a clean game with limited mistakes. Protect the puck.

Turn on the red light - Detroit netted just one goal against Pittsburgh. That won't cut it against the Jets. The Wings need to score and provide some offensive support to help Jimmy Howard.

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY, RED WINGS FANS!

Tonight marks the first of a quick two-game home stand after the Red Wings obtained 4 of a possible 6 points in Colorado, Phoenix, and Pittsburgh. Detroit has won 8 of their past 10 and see themselves 3 points within first place in the East, behind Tampa Bay and Montreal.

Tonight's match-up features a 'new-look' Winnipeg team that sent forward Evander Kane and defenseman Zach Bogosian to Buffalo, in exchange for defenseman Tyler Myers and forwards Drew Stafford, and Joel Armia. Jimmy Howard (out since Jan. 10th) will start for the first time after missing 11 games due to a groin injury. "You can work out and practice as much as you want, but until you get in there and you get a taste of the speed again, you sort of forget what it's like, so it was good (to play)," Howard told the Red Wings website. "I just treated it like a practice." Detroit has not lost back-to-back games in regulation. The Red Wings host Montreal on Monday before they begin a six-game road trip through the Western Conference.

Happy Valentie's Day, and welcome to the Detroit Red Wings Game Day Blog, where you can get behind-the-scenes information, thoughts from players and staff, and up-to-date news on anything and everything Red Wings on game day.

You can watch today's 7:00 PM matchup on Fox Sports Detroit Plus, or listen  in with Ken Kal and Paul Woods on 97.1 The Ticket.
