Gustav Nyquist is absolutely scorching lately. Gus has 8 points in his last 5 games, including 3 goals this weekend, and was named the NHL's First Star of the Week last week.

He's Detroit's 'Hot Wing' by Buffalo Wild Wings!

Start early and score - Detroit had 18 first period shots last time they faced Columbus. They'll need the same start way tonight, but they have to score when they get the chances.

Limit turnovers - Play smart in the defensive zone. Trust your teammates.

Solid goaltending - It sounds like a broken record, but for the Wings to make the playoffs, the goalkeeping needs to be great.

When the Red Wings and Blue Jackets flipped conferences this past offseason, the one familiar aspect of it might have been that the division rivals were making the jump together. Detroit and Columbus are no longer in the same division, but their final game against each other this season should have a postseason atmosphere. The familiar foes face off for two points that will prove pivotal if either team is going to grab one of the Eastern Conference's two wild-card spots in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

"These are huge games and this is what it's going to come down to and who is going to make the playoffs, who is going to be the best team out there," forward Gustav Nyquist said. "I think we're playing all the teams that are around us in the standings. That’s pretty much going to decide whose gonna be in."

Welcome to the Detroit Red Wings Game Day Blog, where you can get behind-the-scenes information, thoughts from players and staff, and up-to-date news on anything and everything Red Wings on game day.

You can watch tonight's 7:30 PM matchup on Fox Sports Detroit, NBC-SN or TSN2, or listen in with Ken Kal and Paul Woods on 97.1 The Ticket or AM1270.
