Jimmy Howard has been red hot since the start of 2014. Despite the team only winning one game, he's been sensational with a .957 SV% and has allowed only one goal in 3 of his last 4 starts. In all 3 of those games, he's made at least 44 saves.

He's today's 'Hot Wing' by Buffalo Wild Wings!

Find a Way to Score - Detroit needs to generate offense and bear down on scoring chances when they come. Also, early goals will take the pressure off Jimmy Howard.

Keep Getting Solid Goalkeeping - Jimmy Howard has been terrific. With a depleted lineup due to injuries, Howie needs to be spectacular again.

Good Special Teams Play - Be strong on the Penalty Kill. A PPG or two will be a huge bonus for a team looking to get on the board.

This is the opener of a five-game homestand for Detroit, which hasn't played at Joe Louis Arena since Dec. 23. The Red Wings' only home game since Christmas was a 3-2 shootout loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic on Jan. 1 at Michigan Stadium. Detroit is 6-10-7 at home and is in track to finish below .500 at home for the first time in 28 years.

“Obviously, our home record hasn’t been as good, but [Howard] wasn’t dialed in like he is right now, so that’s a huge part of having success with a group like we have right now,” Babcock said. “We don’t score great; we need awesome goaltending and we’ve been getting it."

Forward Tomas Tatar will be back in the lineup after missing the loss in New York to attend the funeral of his father.

Welcome to the Detroit Red Wings Game Day Blog, where you can get behind-the-scenes information, thoughts from players and staff, and up-to-date news on anything and everything Red Wings on game day.

You can watch tonight's 7:00 PM matchup on Fox Sports Detroit, or listen in with Ken Kal and Paul Woods on AM1270.
