Buffalo Wild Wings Hot Wings

Justin Abdelkader has definitely been on a tear as of late, adding more and more points to what's already been a career year for him. He's registered two goals and three assists over the past two games, including the game-winner in Calgary, as he helped the Red Wings earn four points on their recent western Canada trip.

He's today's Hot Wing by Buffalo Wild Wings!

Contain Ovechkin - Ovechkin has a goal in 5 straight games and 15 pts in his last 16 games.

Need a fast start - Caps are 20-1-3 when scoring first. Detroit hasn't scored the first goal of a game since Dec 19th vs NYI. Need to compete right from the opening face off.

Win the goaltending battle - Braden Holtby has played in 23 consecutive games. He's lost just 4 games in regulation during that span. Jimmy Howard needs a good game against the Caps. Washington is the only team with 6 players who have scored 10 or more goals this season.

The Detroit Red Wings figured the best way to beat star Buffalo goalie Ryan Miller was to keep firing the puck at him. Eventually, it worked. After firing 48 shots on goal, Mikael Samuelsson scored the go-ahead goal with 2:34 remaining and Detroit beat the Sabres 3-1.

The Red Wings are coming off back-to-back road wins on Tuesday and Wednesday and will look to continue their success tonight against Washington. Detroit is in the middle of a 6 game road trip, but had two days off at home before coming to the nations Capital. The last time these teams met Justin Abdelkader scored twice and Detroit was able to rally back with three goals in the third period winning, 4-2.

The Red Wings placed Johan Franzen on injured reserve Thursday with an upper-body injury and forward Tomas Jurco is out with a disc problem in his back. With injuries starting to pile up, Detroit will keep its 'next man up' mentality as the recalled Rookie forward Teemu Pulkkinen from the Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League on Friday to help out. Pulkkinen, who had the most goals in the AHL (20), skated with center Riley Sheahan and forward Drew Miller during practice. "He just seems to be a player who scores and has scored his whole life," coach Mike Babcock said. "So, is he ready to score in the NHL? We're always looking for goals and if he can score, we're happy to have him … plus, he's a right-hand shot."
