The Red Wings will look to put an end to their recent five game skid (0-3-2) when the Colorado Avalanche come into town. Detroit dropped their previous game against the Islanders, where goaltender Jimmy Howard left the game due to an lower-body injury. Petr Mrazek replaced Howard and will likely get his fourth start of the season tonight against the Avalanche.

"You have to be ready all the time and that’s how the second goalie is,” Mrazek said. “They told me I was going in, so I just stretch out and get ready.”

The Avalanche are giving up 3.06 GA per game, so the Red Wings will look to get their offense back on track tonight by firing a lot of shots on net. "We didn’t throw enough pucks in there. We’ve had that problem now for two games," said defenseman Niklas Kronwall. "We got to get back to doing what we did before. Throw more pucks in there, play a little more desperate and get back to our winning ways.” Last season Colorado and Detroit split their two games with the road team winning each time, with the Mule and Datsyuk each scoring twice in their 4-2 victory at the Pepsi Center.

Despite being shutout in their previous game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, Gustav Nyquist has still generated scoring chances every time he touches the puck. Gus recorded three shots on net Tuesday and looks to get back on the stat sheet tonight when the Isles visit Joe Louis. Nyquist has three points in the past four games (2 goals, 1 assist).

He's Detroit's 'Hot Wing' by Buffalo Wild Wings!

Coach Mike Babcock
Babcock
"The Islanders are a talented, talented team, they improved their back end, they're better in net, and they've always had good talent up-front; They got a good hockey club, it should be lots of fun."
- Mike Babcock

"We've got to get on the inside a lot more, throw more pucks at the net, we haven't had many shots on net as of late, and we've got to get more traffic in front of the net."

Take Advantage On The PP - NYI have allowed 8 goals in their past 18 kills. Detroit has one of the top pp's in the league. Need to score when the extra man is on the ice.

Close The Gaps - Take away NYI's time and space especially in the neutral zone. Don't give them any room to gain speed.

Win in Regulation - NYI are a perfect 9-0 this season in OT.
