Strong Performance from Forwards - The strength of NY is their defense and goalkeeping. The Wings need to make them work hard and generate chances on Lundqvist.

Need Solid Goalkeeping - With a banged up lineup, Jimmy Howard needs to play better than Henrik Lundqvist tonight, and go steal two points in New York.

Compete Hard - The Red Wings competed hard on their west coast trip. They need to do that again vs. NY with so many key people still out due to injury.

The Red Wings wrap up a five-game road trip on which they've gone 2-2-0.

Dealing with a young roster and numerous injuries, Detroit continues to alter its lineup as the season goes on. Days after recent call-up Riley Sheahan scored his first NHL goal against the Los Angeles Kings, the Red Wings called up right wing Tomas Jurco on Tuesday from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League.

The second-round pick (No. 35) is another young player the Red Wings have turned to, along with Luke Glendening,Danny DeKeyser, Gustav Nyquist and Tomas Tatar. That reliance on youth has been due mostly to key injuries to veterans. Neither Pavel Datsyuk nor Daniel Alfredsson skated Wednesday and appear out for Thursday, as are forwards Johan Franzen and Darren Helm. Goaltender Jimmy Howard is likely to be back in net after sustaining a hip injury against the Kings and sitting out a game.

"More so than anything the muscle itself just felt really fatigued, felt it needed a bit of a break," Howard said Wednesday. "Better to take one night off than to go out there and cause further harm and be out 2-3 weeks."

Tonight, Jimmy Howard will look to steal one in New York and get the Wings back in a playoff spot.
