Score First - Toronto is an amazing 12-0 this season when they score the first goal of the game. Make them play catch-up hockey.

Play Solid D - Both teams have been scoring a lot lately. Toronto has scored four goals or more in six of their last eight games. Howard needs to be sharp.

Win the special teams battle - Detroit has the edge in both the PP and PK numbers, but Toronto's special teams are good, too. One special teams tally could be the difference in a tight game.

The Maple Leafs visit Hockeytown twice this year, but tonight's trip doesn't exactly come at an optimal time for Toronto, as they'll face a Red Wings team that's scorching right now. Detroit has won three in a row and seven of its past eight to move into first place in the Atlantic Division; the Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lightning each have 39 points but Detroit has a game in hand.

"All in all, I think we're off to a pretty good start," defenseman Niklas Kronwall said. "But at the same time, I still think there's some work to be done. I still think that we can play even more solid over the course of 60 minutes."

Detroit has had a two-day break after defeating the Carolina Hurricanes 3-1 on Sunday, so they should be fresh and rested against a Maple Leafs team that played last night.
