Start on time - Be ready to play right from the opening face off. Skate and get into the Winnipeg defense. It's a loud building so you want to take the crowd out of it early.

Win the goaltending battle - Petr Mrazek will get his first start of the season tonight and he'll need to be sharp and make key saves at critical points of the game.

Control the face off circle - The offense starts when you have the puck. Win offensive and defensive zone draws and turn them into quality possessions and opportunities.

It has been 373 days since the Red Wings and Jets have last squared off. Winnipeg swept the two-game season series last season including a 4-2 home victory on Nov. 4. Both teams are coming off wins, but Detroit will have a new line up after placing Smith on the seven-game IR. Xavier Ouellet got the call up from Grand Rapids last night who played four games with the Red Wings in 2013-14 and had a goal and four assists in 13 games with Grand Rapids this season.

After obtaining his first shutout of the season, Jimmy Howard will get a break tonight. Goaltender Petr Mrazek will start against Winnipeg.  In eight career starts with the Red Wings, Mrazek has produced a 3-5-0 record with a 1.80 goals-against average, a .926 save percentage and two shutouts.

“He's got a swagger about him. He thinks he's good and he plays good,” Wings coach Mike Babcock said.
