The Wings finished strong Wednesday night, netting three goals in the third to put away the Capitals 4-2 and look to win their second in a row tonight against the Los Angeles Kings. Detroit has won six of their past eight regular-season meetings against the Kings dating to 2011-12, and goaltender Jimmy Howard is a big reason why. Howard went 6-2-0 with a 1.88 goals-against average and .941 save percentage. The Red wings will be again without forward Johan Franzen (pulled groin) who has practiced for three straight days. He plans to return Sunday at the Buffalo Sabres. Regardless, Detroit seeks to extend their regular-season dominance over L.A.

Jimmy Howard has come out of the gate red hot this season. In 6 games, Howard has only allowed 12 goals, and boasts a .929 SV% and a 1.95 GAA.

He's Detroit's 'Hot Wing' by Buffalo Wild Wings!

Force Ovechkin to play both ways - He's one of the best in the game offensively. He's hard to contain. The key is to make him play in his own end. That's where he has been most vulnerable in the past.

Score on the PP - Detroit is 2 for 30 with the man advantage. They've gone 5 games without a PPG. They have to start finding the back of the net.

Get into the Capitals' defense - Detroit needs to make the Caps' D-Men work in their own zone. Take away their time and space. Force them to turnover the puck and take advantage when they do.

Coming off a disappointing 4-2 loss in Philadelphia in which the Wings dominated, outshooting the Flyers 37-17, they'll look to bounce back and earn two points against a Capitals team with an identical 4-2-2 record. The Wings will again be without Johan Franzen, who skated briefly on Tuesday for the first time since leaving an Oct. 17 game against the Toronto Maple Leafs with a groin injury. "I tried a few strikes at 100 percent or close to it. I didn't feel great doing that so I backed off. I'm going to start a little slower," said Franzen, who did deem being back on the ice "a step forward" and said he would skate again Wednesday. Nevertheless, the Wings will push forward and look to bring two points home from the nation's capital.
