Gustav Nyquist picked up right where he left off at the end of last season on Thursday, scoring the game-winner for Detroit. Nyquist now has 24 goals in his last 35 games, seven of which are game-winners.

He's today's 'Hot Wing' by Buffalo Wild Wings!

Anaheim Ducks vs. Detroit Red Wings

Rely on team speed - The Wings skated well and played fast against Boston; they'll have to do the same tonight, especially on the forecheck to generate opportunities.

Shut down the top Ducks - Getzlaf, Perry, Kesler are just a few players than can hurt you. Take away their time and space.

Keep PK strong - The Wings were terrific on the PK in preseason and that carried over into a perfect effort on Thursday. The PK unit must be good against this potent Ducks offense.

Detroit suffocated the Boston Bruins in their season opener on Thursday, holding them to just 17 shots on goal in their 2-1 victory. They dictated the play and got their season off to a 1-0 start. While a great start to their season, the Wings were already looking ahead to their next challenge.

“We have to follow that up. Can’t be content and happy,” Justin Abdelkader said. “We have a good team coming in. We need to build off the (Boston) win.”

Tonight, the Wings will play host to the team they knocked out of the 2013 NHL Playoffs, the Anaheim Ducks, on Breast Cancer Awareness Night.

Welcome to the Detroit Red Wings Game Day Blog, where you can get behind-the-scenes information, thoughts from players and staff, and up-to-date news on anything and everything Red Wings on game day.

Despite the Red Wings controlling the play through most of the first, the Bruins got an early 1-0 lead on a Patrice Bergeron wrister. Nevertheless, the Wings battled back hard and got goals from Justin Abdelkader and Gustav Nyquist to go along with a sensational performance by Jimmy Howard to seal a 2-1 victory for Detroit.

Thanks for tuning in to our GameDay Blog...we'll see you Saturday when we host the Ducks!
