"I'm excited for Nesty, it's pretty exciting for him. You want to
share this with the people you love and the people that helped
you along the way... he played well and he's earned his right to
start here today."

- Mike Babcock

"I think if you'd asked anybody a year ago if I was going to play in the NHL, they'd say 100 percent no... but I always hoped deep down it would happen and now it's here so I'm really happy for it."
- Andrej Nestrasil.

"We're really impressed with the development and the depth
of our group... we don't have as much star power as we used to,
but we have good depth and we're hopeful these kids
are going to turn into real players."

Move the puck - The Bruins will try to play physical against the Wings. The best way to stay away from that is to be quick and move the puck out of your own zone.

Stay focused - There's a lot of emotions on opening night. Stay focused at the task on the hand.

Feed off the crowd - Play with contained emotion and trust your teammates to get the job done.

"A lot of us are chomping at the bit to get back out there." - Jimmy Howard

After 165 days without hockey, the Red Wings will finally hit the ice again when they play host to the team they faced last, the Boston Bruins.

The Red Wings qualified for the Stanley Cup playoffs for the 23rd consecutive season in 2013-14, but lost to the Bruins in an Eastern Conference opening-round series.

On the plus side, Detroit won three of four regular season matchups against Boston last season, including both games at Joe Louis Arena, where they've won four in a row against the Bruins.

Unfortunately, the Wings will look to open their season with a 'W' without star center, Pavel Datsyuk, who's been sidelined by a separated shoulder. Nevertheless, it should be interesting to see a hungry Detroit team come out hard as they look to earn two points against a Boston team that played last night.

Welcome to the Detroit Red Wings Game Day Blog, where you can get behind-the-scenes information, thoughts from players and staff, and up-to-date news on anything and everything Red Wings on game day.

You can watch tonight's 7:30 PM matchup on Fox Sports Detroit, or listen in with Ken Kal and Paul Woods on 97.1 The Ticket.
