GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins on Monday recalled forward Luke Glendening from the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye. The East Grand Rapids native is slated to make his Griffins debut this Wednesday at 7 p.m. against the Rochester Americans at Van Andel Arena, which would make him the first player from Greater Grand Rapids to ever play for the team.

In addition, the Detroit Red Wings today reassigned defenseman Gleason Fournier and forward Andrej Nestrasil (ahn-DRAY NEHS-tra-shihl) to the Griffins from the Walleye.

The 23-year-old Glendening, who signed a one-year contract with Grand Rapids on June 19, currently stands third on Toledo with 21 points (14-7—21) in 27 games. A former captain at the University of Michigan, he leads the Walleye and is tied for eighth in the ECHL in both goals (14) and plus-minus (+13). Glendening made his AHL debut by playing three games with the Providence Bruins last season.

Fournier, 21, has skated in three games with the Griffins this season, logging four penalty minutes. The Rimouski, Quebec, native has also spent nine games with Toledo, registering a plus-four rating alongside four penalty minutes. The second-year pro has suited up for 80 games between Grand Rapids and Toledo during his career, recording 22 points (3-19—22) and 54 penalty minutes.

A native of Prague, Czech Republic, Nestrasil ranks second on Toledo in scoring with 24 points (7-17—24) in 27 contests. The 21-year-old right wing has been one of the hottest players in the ECHL, logging points in eight consecutive games (1-10—11). Nestrasil played 25 games for Grand Rapids in 2011-12, recording three goals and one assist. He shows 57 points (17-40—57) in 103 games between the Griffins and Walleye.

The Griffins will begin a season-high seven-game homestand when they host Rochester on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The team will also welcome Abbotsford (Friday at 7 p.m.) and Chicago (Saturday at 7 p.m.) to Van Andel Arena before entering the holiday break. Tickets are available at griffinshockey.com.
