DETROIT Gordie Howe turns 85 Sunday and the Red Wings will celebrate Mr. Hockey’s birthday in a special Easter Sunday matinee against the Chicago Blackhawks at Joe Louis Arena.

When Howe retired more than three decades ago – his last NHL game came on April 12, 1980, when the Montreal Canadiens defeated him and the Hartford Whalers 4-3 in overtime – he owned league records for games played, goals, assists and points. What’s more amazing is that he retired at age 52.
