Red Wings reduce roster to 27

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today assigned forwards Mitch Callahan, Luke Glendening, Calle Jarnkrok, Tomas Jurco, Teemu Pulkkinen and Riley Sheahan; defensemen Adam Almquist, Xavier Ouellet and Ryan Sproul; and goaltender Jared Coreau to the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins. Additionally, the team released forward Jeff Hoggan and defenseman Nathan Paetsch from their professional tryouts and placed forwards Willie Coetzee and Landon Ferraro and defenseman Nick Jensen on injured reserve.

The Red Wings’ roster currently stands at 27 players, as the team heads into their regular season home opener on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 8 p.m. against the Buffalo Sabres (NBCSN/97.1 The Ticket).
