Wings host a special '9' birthday party
Come celebrate when Gordie Howe turns 80 at end of March

DETROIT -- The Red Wings invite you to celebrate the 80th birthday of Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe on Sunday, March 30 at Joe Louis Arena. Join Mr. Hockey, who was born on March 31, 1928, for a special pre-game ceremony beginning at 3 p.m. EDT as the Red Wings take on the Nashville Predators (FSN Detroit).
In honor of Mr. Hockey, the Red Wings’ players, coaches, and general manager Ken Holland will join the Red Wings' legend at ice-level for a special presentation and ceremonial puck-drop.
“Gordie is one of Hockeytown’s true treasures and a living legend,” Holland said. “The Red Wings are honored to help Mr. Hockey celebrate his 80th birthday.”
All fans attending the game will receive a commemorative Gordie Howe photo card, sponsored by the U.S. Army and can join Karen Newman as Hockeytown sings ‘Happy Birthday’ to one of hockey’s all-time greatest players.
Throughout the game, fans will have the opportunity to view special birthday wishes from former hockey greats and celebrities and play Gordie Howe trivia for a chance to win prizes. At merchandise stands, the book "Nine: A Salute to Mr. Hockey Gordie Howe” will be on sale for just $20, which is 33 percent off the normal retail price.
The Howe Foundation, founded by Colleen and Gordie Howe, is committed to enriching the lives of those who would otherwise not be able to share and experience the great sport of hockey.
