BBQ returns for Game 5

Fans can enjoy BBQ prior to Saturday's Western Conference finals at JLA

DETROIT -- Back by popular demand, the Stanley Cup playoffs BBQ returns to Joe Louis Arena on Saturday, May 17 at 11:30 a.m. EDT prior to Game 5 between the Red Wings and the Dallas Stars. The BBQ takes place on the street-level apron outside the east entrance to JLA (along the Detroit River) and will continue through game time. The puck will drop at 1:30 p.m. EDT (NBC, 97.1 FM).
 
The Joe Louis Arena executive chefs and Al Sobotka will be grilling up Italian sausages ($5), cheeseburgers ($5), BBQ pulled pork sandwiches ($6) and cheese steak sandwiches ($7). Ice cold beer and soft drinks will be available for purchase as well. The band Morning Glory will add to the festive atmosphere outside JLA and entertain fans throughout the barbeque leading up to Game 5.
 

THE DETROIT RED WINGS FOUNDATION TO SELL BIG AL’S BBQ APRONS
 
The Detroit Red Wings Foundation will continue selling limited edition Big Al’s BBQ Aprons at the Game 5 pre-game BBQ, as well as on the east end of the Joe Louis Arena concourse. This must-have grilling accessory features Hockeytown’s favorite cephalopod, Al the Octopus, with proceeds benefiting the Detroit Red Wings Foundation. The foundation supports several initiatives and organizations including, the development of inner city youth hockey, the fight against cancer, a wide array of children’s health, educational and recreational activities and other needs of the community through the sport of hockey.  The Detroit Red Wings Foundation is associated with Ilitch Charities, an IRS recognized 501(c)(3) organization.  Previous grant recipients include: Camp Quality of Michigan, Children’s Hospital of Michigan, The Detroit Hockey Association, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Mothers and Unborn Baby Care, Muscular Dystrophy Association and YMCA. The foundation is funded through a variety of team and player fundraising events as well as donations from the public.
