Three Questions: Wings-Predators
false
What went wrong?

For the first 50-minutes of the game, it looked like the Red Wings were going to come away with the victory. But they were unable to wrap up a two-goal lead, giving up goals to Jason Arnott and J.P. Dumont in the final seven minutes of the third period. The Wings got themselves into penalty trouble late, and with goalie Pekka Rinne pulled, the Predators used the two-man advantage to get Dumont the game-tying goal at the 19-minute mark.

From there, it was overtime, and the Wings recorded only one shot. Forward Henrik Zetterberg took a pass from Johan Franzen early, but rang the great opportunity off the near post. Zetterberg was called for hooking late in the extra period, and the Wings were able to hold the Predators. But they couldn’t hold them in the shootout, as the Predators picked up a win to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Who was the Wings' player of the game?

Franzen played a great game for the Wings Thursday night. Prior to the contest, he was named Carhartt’s Hardest Working Player of the Month, for his exceptional performance in March. He celebrated by scoring the Wings' third goal of the contest, at the 2:12 mark of the third. Franzen tallied his 34th goal of the season when he took a pass from Zetterberg, and beat Rinne with a quick wrist shot to his blocker side. Franzen played for 19:10, and he recorded four shots on the night.

Who else contributed?

The Wings’ defensive corps got in on the scoring action Thursday night. First it was Niklas Kronwall, who scored his 6th goal of the season on a blast from the point at the 11:50 mark of the first period. Then captain Nicklas Lidstrom beat Rinne with a slapper from the blue line with 33 seconds left in the second period for his 16th of the season. The two goals, both recorded on the power play, helped the Wings go 2-4 on the man-advantage Thursday.
