DETROIT -- The Red Wings' first annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night held on October 26, was a tremendous success as the team raised more than $30,000 for local families battling breast cancer.

Fans, players, coaches and staff were all part of the evening with a variety of activities throughout the game. The team hosted breast cancer patients, survivors and their families in an executive suite at the game. Many fans in attendance at the game showed their pink passion by wearing pink attire and one lucky fan deemed the best-dressed won an autographed Chris Chelios jersey. Fundraising efforts included a puck draw hosted by the Red Wings wives, a silent auction with several game-used items and special Red Wings Breast Cancer Awareness merchandise.

“It was great to see how everyone pulled together to support this important cause,” said captain Nicklas Lidstrom. “There are so many people who have been affected by breast cancer and I’m proud our team could do something to assist local families battling this disease.”

Proceeds from additional breast cancer awareness merchandise sales will also assist local families battling breast cancer.
