DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings Foundation, the official charity of the Detroit Red Wings, today announced it will accept grant applications from local non-profit groups from August 15-October 1, 2008. The foundation will grant a minimum total of $150,000 to select organizations that focus on: youth hockey growth, development and initiatives; health and nutrition; education; or recreation. Individual grant requests cannot exceed $30,000. Grant winners will be announced in November.

“The Red Wings organization is extremely excited to announce our first annual grant cycle,” Executive Vice President and General Manager Ken Holland said. “We are proud of our longstanding commitment to our community and look forward to assisting local groups who share our mission of giving back to those in need.”

All grant recipients must be public charities exempt from taxation under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. While grant recipients may represent a diverse range of programs involving all age groups, the focus of the Detroit Red Wings Foundation is on programs that benefit the children and youth of Detroit and its metropolitan area.
