Wings ring bells for Salvation Army today

Wings bell ringers and red kettles at home games highlight exciting week

DETROIT -- Bragging rights are on the line as members of the Red Wings engage in a friendly bell ringing competition to see who can raise the most money for the Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign. Players and staff members will be serving as Red Kettle bell ringers at select metro Detroit retail locations on Tuesday, December 16.

For the third consecutive year, the Detroit Red Wings and The Salvation Army (TSA) are joining forces in the Red Wings For Red Kettles initiative to increase awareness throughout the community and encourage donations to sustain vital services to the less fortunate in the area. Ken Holland, Red Wings executive vice president and general manager, is serving as honorary chair of the campaign of the 2008 Red Kettle campaign for the third straight year.

“This is going to be a fun week for the Red Wings and the Salvation Army,” Holland said. “We look forward to hosting red kettles at our games, and we’re excited to be at locations throughout the area ringing bells on Tuesday. The need to support The Salvation Army is more important than ever, and I hope our fans will join us and help raise crucial funds to support the many great services they offer.”

The team will also host red kettles at home games on Dec. 15 (vs. Colorado), Dec. 18 (vs. San Jose) and Dec. 20 (vs. Los Angeles). Fans attending Red Wings games on those nights will have the opportunity to assist TSA in meeting its metro Detroit goal of $8.5 million to sustain its annual services.
