Training Camp returns to Hockeytown North
The Prospect Tournament features outstanding talent and highly competitive play as aspiring players compete for precious NHL roster spots. Participating in this year's tournament are the Wings, Columbus Blue Jackets, Minnesota Wild, Atlanta Thrashers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Washington Capitals.
The Red Wings will take to the ice with a new coaching staff, led by head coach Mike Babcock. Many Red Wings stars will make their return to Centre I.C.E. while there are certain to be some new faces in town as well, said Camp Director Pete Correia.
"With the NHL's new agreement and the subsequent player movement, this could be our most interesting and exciting year ever," said Correia. "There may be more opportunity for NHL roster spots than ever before, and the Red Wings will have a new look. It's going to make for some great fun and exciting hockey."
Fans will also have an opportunity to see NHL-level play for the first time under the league's new rules. The new rules are designed to inspire more offensive play, so fans can look for plenty of the red goal light flashing during the ten days of hockey action. During camp, Wings fans also revel in the unique opportunity to be close to the on-ice action and ask players for autographs following practices.
This is the eighth year in Traverse City for both Red Wings Camp and the Prospect Tournament. Proceeds from the two events benefit Involved Citizens Enterprises, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting ice skating opportunities to people of all ages in the Grand Traverse area.
Tickets for both the Prospect Tournament and Red Wings Training camp will be sold one day only on Saturday, August 13, from 10 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Centre Ice Arena. For more information on tickets and schedules, visit
