Cleary signs, final roster set for opener
DETROIT - The 2005-06 opening night roster is set after the Red Wings today signed foward Dan Cleary to a one-year, two-way contract.

With the signing of Cleary, the Red Wings roster stands at 23 active players (three goaltenders, seven defensemen and 13 forwards) as they prepare to host tomorrow's night opener against the St. Louis Blues.

Defenseman Brett Lebda fills the seventh defensive spot after veteran blueliner Andy Delmore was claimed off waivers by the Columbus Blue Jackets Tuesday.

The Wings roster was paired down further on Monday after forwards Rem Murray, Blake Sloan and Dan LaCouture were all released.

Rookie Jimmy Howard will serve as backup goaltender while Chris Osgood nurses a groin injury back to health.
