Tickets for the upcoming season of "College Hockey at the Joe" are on sale now.
The season starts off with the 41st Annual Great Lakes Invitational held December 29 and 30. Host school Michigan Technological University joins Michigan State University, the University of Michigan and invitational school Colorado College in the prestigious holiday tournament.
The Spartans will attempt to recapture tournament glory with a repeat of last year's
championship performance, when they defeated the Wolverines 2-1 in an exciting overtime victory. Michigan State has recorded 10 GLI titles, including five in the past eight seasons.
For the first time, fans attending this season's Great Lakes Invitational and CCHA Championship games will have the opportunity to win an automobile. One fan will be selected to win on each day of the two tournaments. Other giveaways will include scholarships and hockey equipment gift certificates.
Tickets also will be available for the Central Collegiate Hockey Association intrastate rivalry game between Michigan and Michigan State at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 28. The Spartans return to the Joe to take on the Lakers of Lake Superior State University at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 25.
Fans also have the opportunity to purchase tickets for the 25th Annual CCHA Championship held March 17 and 18. This year, the Wolverines seek to return to the Joe to defend their 2005 title. Michigan has taken home the CCHA Championship title seven times, including victories in three of the past five years. In 2006, the tournament will celebrate a quarter-century of exciting college hockey at Joe Louis Arena.
