Red Wings are best in the West
DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings secured the 2005-06 Western Conference Championship with Saturday night's 4-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets combined with a 4-1 Dallas loss to San Jose on Sunday.

The title marks the Red Wings' seventh conference championship in the past 14 years. Detroit needs a combination of just three points over the Ottawa Senators to claim their fifth President's Trophy in the past 11 seasons as the NHL's regular season champion.

Saturday's victory at Columbus also earned the Red Wings a new NHL record for road victories in a single season at 29, breaking the mark of 28 set by New Jersey in 1998-99; and pushed the Wings' current road winning streak to 10 consecutive games, tying the NHL record set by three other clubs (Buffalo 1983-84, St. Louis 1999-2000 and New Jersey 2000-01).

The Wings host Edmonton Tuesday night (7:30 p.m.) at Joe Louis Arena. The Oilers currently are holding onto the eighth and final playoff seed, just one point ahead of Vancouver.

A limited number of tickets remain for select games in the first two rounds of the Stanley Cup Playoffs at Joe Louis Arena. Fans can purchase tickets at all TicketMaster retail locations, the Joe Louis Arena Box Office, Hockeytown Authentics in Troy, Hockeytown Café, by phone at (248) 645-6666 or online at www.detroitredwings.com.
