Cleary agrees to two-year deal
"Dan's a gritty player and we value what he brings to the team," said Holland. "I'm glad he will be in a Red Wings jersey for the next two seasons."
Cleary, 27 (12/18/78), played 77 games and posted 15 points (3-12-15) in 2005-06 with the Red Wings. Cleary was originally signed as a free agent by Detroit on October 4, 2005. Prior to joining Detroit last season, the eight-year veteran of the National Hockey League (NHL) made stops in Chicago, Edmonton and Phoenix. He has skated in 406 NHL games and collected 127 points (44-83-127).
The Blackhawks selected Cleary 13th overall in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, but after playing in only 41 games with Chicago he was dealt to the Edmonton Oilers in 1999. He had his most productive NHL season with the Oilers in 2000-01, when he racked up 35 points (14-21-35) in 81 games. Cleary's four-year stint in Edmonton ended after the 2002-03 campaign when he signed as a free agent with the Phoenix Coyotes
