Williams, Wings agree to two years
DETROIT -- Detroit Red Wings General Manager Ken Holland today announced the team has re-signed forward Jason Williams to a two-year contract. In keeping with club policy, additional terms of the deal are not available.

"We are pleased to reach a deal with Jason before going to arbitration," said Holland. "He took a big step forward as a NHL player last year and we look forward to even more progress in the future."

Williams, 25, had a breakout year in 2005-06. He posted career highs in games (80), goals (21), assists (37) and points (58). The six-year National Hockey League (NHL) veteran had a fast start last season, collecting 13 points (3-10-13) in Detroit's first ten games. He became the first Red Wing to score three goals in one period since 1996-97, when he notched his first career hat trick in the opening period at Columbus on Oct. 22, 2005.

In the inaugural year of the NHL's shootout format, Williams quickly earned a reputation as one of the League's most proficient scorers in a shootout situation. He scored five times in seven attempts, including two game-winners.

Williams has spent his entire career with Detroit after originally signing with the club on Sept. 18, 2000.
