DETROIT _ The Red Wings dictated the action in the second period, clamping down on the Florida Panthers Sunday night, and holding the visitors down without a shot on goal in the period.
Meanwhile, the Wings took advantage of Panthers' penalties, scoring twice on the power-play, en route to a 4-2 win at Joe Louis Arena.
Detroit cut its deficit in half, taking advantage of a 5-on-3 opportunity midway through the period. With Olli Jokinen and Gregory Campbell serving minor penalties, simultaneous, the Wings' Johan Franzen poked a rebound through Ed Belfour's pads.
Mathieu Schneider tied the game with the Wings' second power-play tally, blasting a slap shot from the blue line that found the back of the net. And 37-seconds later, Kris Draper gave the Wings a 3-2 edge, sending a wrist shot off Belfour's upper arm.
Robert Lang finished the scoring with an empty-net goal with one-second left.
The Panthers built a 2-0 lead in the first period when Janis Sprukts and Ric Jackman scored even-strength goals.
