Ken Holland has a new title
DETROIT _ Red Wings' general manager Ken Holland has a new title. Holland, beginning his 10th season with the club, is now the vice president and GM of the Red Wings. The team also announced that it has given Holland and assistant GM Jim Nill contract extensions through the 2010-11 season.

Holland and Nill each had two years left on their current contracts.

One of the most respected people in hockey, Holland, 50, successfully navigated the league's new salary cap last year, assembling one of the best teams in franchise history. Under first-year coach Mike Babcock, the Wings won 58 games, the second-best in team history, and captured the President's Trophy, after drastically cutting payroll to comply with the NHL's new salary cap.

Nill, 48, starts his ninth season as assistant GM, and 13th as a member of the Wings' front office. He continues to oversee the development of the organization's main affiliate, the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins.
