MacDonald sent down for playing time
DETROIT -- Red Wings General Manager Ken Holland today announced that rookie goalie Joey MacDonald has been reassigned to the team's American Hockey League affiliate in Grand Rapids for a two-week conditioning assignment.

MacDonald, 26, made his NHL debut this season, appearing in four games with a 0-2-1 record and 3.67 goals against average. He has not seen action since Dec. 2, when he dropped a 3-2 decision against the San Jose Sharks.

He'll be available for the Griffin's contest tonight at 7 p.m. against the Omaha Knights at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids.

The Halifax, Nova Scotia native is set to return to the Red Wings after the two-week conditioning stint.
