Injury sidelines Kronwall 6-8 weeks
By The Associated Press

-- The Red Wings said Saturday that defenseman Niklas Kronwall is expected to be out of the lineup for six to eight weeks with a broken sacrum, a triangular bone situated near the lower end of the spinal column.

Meanwhile, Detroit said defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom has a lower back strain and won't play in Sunday's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. But defenseman Brett Lebda is expected to return to the lineup.

Lebda has been out since suffering a concussion March 24 against the St. Louis Blues.

Kronwall was helped off the ice and taken to a hospital after injuring his right hip on a check from the Dallas Stars' Joel Lundqvist just 24 seconds into Friday night's game, which Dallas went on to win 4-3.

Kronwall had a "non-displaced fracture of his sacrum," the team said in a statement.

Kronwall was hit from the side and into the end boards by Lundqvist as he stopped behind Detroit's net as he tried retrieve the puck. Kronwall has already had a broken leg and major knee surgery during his three-season NHL career.

The Red Wings on Saturday also said they recalled defenseman Kyle Quincey from their American Hockey League affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins.
