Bertuzzi not ready for Game 2 action
By The Associated Press

DETROIT
-- Red Wings forward Todd Bertuzzi will not play Sunday against Calgary in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series.

He has been out with a concussion and a neck injury.

Bertuzzi said he felt comfortable after skating with his teammates Saturday, but a team spokesman later said the 6-foot-3, 242-pound forward would not play Sunday.

Does Bertuzzi expect to play Tuesday night in Game 3 at Calgary?

"Oh yeah," he said. "I'm hoping so."

Bertuzzi, 32, sat out Thursday's series-opening 4-1 victory over the Flames, but the two-time all-star had hoped to return Sunday in Game 2 of the best-of-seven series at Joe Louis Arena (NBC, CBC, 1 p.m. ET).

"He has been cleared medically," Wings coach Mike Babcock said Friday. "Now he has to get cleared by our therapy people, as far as being ready to play. If he is ready to go, he will be in [the lineup]."

Bertuzzi spent most of the season recovering from back surgery, posting three goals and 11 points in 15 games for the Florida Panthers and Red Wings.

Detroit acquired him for Shawn Matthias and two draft picks on Feb. 27.

Bertuzzi played eight games for the Wings, but was forced to miss the regular-season finale and Game 1 against the Flames because of mild concussion-like symptoms.

"I'm fit enough, I don't think that's an issue," he said. "It's been an up-and-down year, for sure.

"But I'm happy that my health is better. And it was nice to see the guys get a huge win."

Bertuzzi, a native of Sudbury, Ont., has totalled 226 goals and 540 points in 725 games over 11 NHL seasons with the New York Islanders, Vancouver Canucks, Panthers and Wings.
