Wings to step to the plate against Royal Oak FD
DETROIT -- The Red Wings will be stepping up to the plate in the Fire On Ice Charity Softball Game against members of the Royal Oak Fire Department. The game is scheduled for Sunday, September 9 at Memorial Field in Royal Oak.  Game time is 2 p.m.

Tickets are on sale, so come watch some of your favorite Red Wings players and personalities, like captain Nicklas Lidstrom, Chris Chelios, Dan Cleary, Kris Draper, Brett Lebda, Andreas Lilja, Kirk Maltby, Dallas Drake, Brian Rafalski and alumni member Mickey Redmond.*

Fans attending will also have the chance to enter the Jersey-Off-Our-Backs raffle for a chance to win the players’ game-worn softball jerseys. Gates at Memorial Field (13 Mile and Woodward) open at 1 p.m.

General admission tickets for the event are only $10 and can be purchased at Hockeytown Authentics in Troy, through the Joe Louis Arena season ticket office at 313-396-7575, and at all three Royal Oak Fire Stations: Station No. 1 (Sixth and Troy streets), Station No. 4 (Woodward Ave. and 13 Mile), and Station No. 3 (Rochester, one block south of 13 Mile).

Sponsored by Beaumont Hospital, Cheli’s Chili Bar and Coca-Cola, proceeds from the event will benefit the Detroit Red Wings Foundation and Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

The goal of the Detroit Red Wings Foundation is to satisfy the unique needs of our community through the sport of hockey. Previous grantees of the Foundation include: Camp Quality of Michigan, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Children’s Hospital of Michigan and the American Heart Association – Go Red For Women.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association’s
mission is to foster and promote the alleviation of the conditions of persons with muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular disorders through support of basic and applied research seeking the causes of and effective treatments for these diseases. MDA believes the medical management and day-to-day well-being of those it serves are also vitally important and, accordingly, provides a broad range of patient and community services in tandem with its support of potentially lifesaving research.
