|The Red Wings' team plane, Red Bird II, ran off the runway at St. Louis Downtown Airport on Tuesday night.|
Team spokesman John Hahn reports that the rear right wheels of the plane inadvertently crossed into the grass next to the tarmac. Due to heavy rains the prior day, the wheels sank into the mud and the plane was not able to dislodge under its own power.
The plane was traveling at approximately five miles per hour at the time.
The Red Wings disembarked in a normal manner and returned to their team hotel in St. Louis for the evening.
Wednesday was a scheduled day off for the Wings, who host the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday at Joe Louis Arena. The Wings plan to return to Detroit via a charter flight later today.
