Knee injury sidelines Drake
Drake, who injured his right knee during the third period of Saturday’s 3-2 loss at Ottawa, is listed as day-to-day.
“My knee is still quite swollen so we have to get the swelling out and get some mobility back,” Drake said. “It felt a lot better today than it did yesterday.”
Drake and Senators All-Star Dany Heatley collided into the end boards about four-minutes into the period. Heatley left the ice clutching his right shoulder, which the team eventually learned from separated. He will miss up to six weeks.
Drake missed Tuesday’s morning skate, though he tried skating alone.
“I went out this morning real quick just to skate; just to see where I was and I really couldn’t put a lot of pressure on it as far as exploding,” Drake said. “Not that there’s much explosiveness in my game, but that’s where I was.”
In Drake’s absence, forward Aaron Downey will be added to the lineup.
The play in Ottawa occurred when Drake – with Heatley in close pursuit -- touched the puck averting an icing. As Drake attempted to stop, he drove his right knee into the boards.
“I tried to hit him and he moved,” Drake said. “And then I went knee-first into the boards. He kind of fell behind me and over me then he hit his shoulder. So, he tried to avoid it, but that’s what happened. It’s a big loss because he’s a good player.”
