DETROIT – Nicklas Lidstrom said Thursday that a previously published report on the Internet about the condition of his injured right knee is inaccurate.

It was widely reported that the five-time Norris Trophy winner suffered a slight tear in his medial cruciate ligament as a result of falling ackwardly to the ice following the thunderous check from Ian Laperriere during Monday’s 4-0 win at Colorado.

“No. There wasn’t a tear. Nope,” Lidstrom said. “It didn’t show anything on the MRI, which is good, so, it is a strained MCL.”

Lidstrom was examined by team doctors on Wednesday in Detroit. He also had a baseline test performed that showed no signs of a concussion that he may have received when his head was driven into the glass by Laperriere’s elbow.

Lidstrom said he might have a second baseline test as a precaution sometime next week. He also indicated that there’s no change in his knee.
 
“The knee is pretty much the same as yesterday,” he said. “We’re relived that there wasn’t a tear or anything more major than it is now.”
