Datsyuk earns \'Hardest Working\' award
Pavel Datsyuk receives the Carhartt 'Hardest Working Player of the Month' Trophy for December from Doug Murphy of the Red Wings' Ad Sales department and Sanja Zarubica, Carhatt's sponsorship and event specialist.
DETROITPavel Datsyuk closed out 2008 in style.

The Red Wings center finished the calendar year on an eight-game point-scoring streak, collecting seven goals and nine assists, which helped Detroit to a 9-3-1 record in the month of December.

For his prodigious month that included five multi-point games, he was named the Red Wings’ Hardest Working Player of the Month Award, presented by Carhartt. Datsyuk is the first Wings’ player to receive the honor more than once. He was the award’s third recipient in Dec. 2007.

Datsyuk received his recent award from Carhartt sponsorship and event specialist Sanja Zarubica during a pre-game ceremony prior to the start of the Wings-Blue Jackets game at Joe Louis Arena on Jan. 6

During the regular-season, Carhartt has presented the monthly award to the hardest working Red Wings’ player, along with Carhartt merchandise. The award, in its second season, recognizes the player for his hard work and individual dedication to commitment necessary to excel on the ice. The Red Wings’ coaching staff and front office personnel select the monthly recipients.

Datsyuk finished the month with seven goals, 11 assists, a plus-10 rating, three power-play tallies, a shorthanded goal along with a game-winning goal against Chicago on Dec. 30. It was his first game-winner of the season.

The 30-year-old Russian star helped pace the Wings to a lopsided 6-0 win over San Jose on Dec. 18 with two goals and two assists. The four-point night was Datsyuk’s highest single-game point production in nearly two years.

The defending Selke Trophy winner hasn’t let-up on his outstanding two-way contributions this season. Again, Datsyuk is among the top 10 face-off men in the league, winning draws at a clip of 57.5 percentage. He’s also quite the thief when it comes to gaining puck-possession from opposing players, collecting 45 takeaways – two short of league-leader Scott Niedermayer of Anaheim.

Datsyuk is the 10th player so honored by Carhartt since last season, joining past recipients Henrik Zetterberg (Oct. 2007), Chris Osgood (Nov. 2007), Datsyuk (Dec. 2007), Dan Cleary (Jan. 2008), trainers Piet VanZant and Russ Baumann (Feb. 2008), Johan Franzen (March 2008), Marian Hossa (Oct. 2008) and Andreas Lilja (Nov. 2008)

For over 115 years, Carhartt has manufactured premium workwear known for exceptional durability, comfort, quality of construction, and fit that you can feel in the fabrics and see in the performance. Established in 1889, Carhartt is family-owned and operated with over 4,000 employees dedicated to providing Best-in-Class apparel for the active worker.

Carhartt and the Red Wings would like to recognize Pavel Datsyuk for his outstanding work and success during November and wish him continued success throughout the 2008-09 season.
