Datsyuk named NHL\'s First Star of the week
NEW YORK -- Red Wings center Pavel Datsyuk, Calgary left wing Mike Cammalleri and Atlanta center Rich Peverley have been named the NHL's 'Three Stars' for the week ending Jan. 18.

FIRST STAR -- PAVEL DATSYUK, C, DETROIT RED WINGS
Datsyuk led the League in points for the week with seven (one goal, six assists) as the Red Wings (31-8-6, 68 points) recorded five points in four road games. He began the week by posting a goal and two assists in a 5-4 overtime loss at Dallas Jan. 12. He notched two assists in a 4-3 win over the Anaheim Ducks Jan. 14 and had two more in a 6-5 loss to the San Jose Sharks Jan. 17. Datsyuk leads Detroit and ranks fifth in NHL scoring with 54 points (19 goals, 35 assists) in 45 games. He also leads the Red Wings in plus-minus with a +21 rating.

SECOND STAR -- MIKE CAMMALLERI, LW, CALGARY FLAMES
Cammalleri tallied six points (five goals, one assist) as the Flames (27-14-4, 58 points) posted a split of their four games, including a signature victory at San Jose that snapped the Sharks' streak of 31 regular-season home games without a regulation loss. He recorded a pair of goals in a 3-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues Jan. 13, notched one assist in the 3-2 win at San Jose Jan. 15 and tallied his second two-goal outing of the week as the Flames dropped a 4-3 decision to the Phoenix Coyotes Jan. 17. Cammalleri finished the week by posting one goal in a 6-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche Jan. 18.

THIRD STAR -- RICH PEVERLEY, C, ATLANTA THRASHERS
Peverley recorded six points (one goal, five assists) and a +5 rating in three games, helping the Thrashers post a 2-1-0 record. Claimed on waivers from the Nashville Predators on Jan. 10, Peverley recorded the overtime winner and added two assists in a 4-3 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs Jan. 16 in just his second game in a Thrashers uniform. Peverley closed the week with three assists in a 7-2 win over his former club at Nashville Jan. 17.

Datsyuk is the second Red Wings' player to receive the league's weekly award in the last three weeks. Defenseman Brian Rafalski was recognized as the 'Second Star' for his six-point effort during the week-ending Jan. 4.

Datsyuk earned a 'First Star' last season (Feb. 3, 2008) for an identical seven-point performance with a  goal and six assists. He was also the league's 'Second Star' of the month in December 2007, ranking third in the league with 22 points with a plus-11 rating in 15 games.
