The victory marks the Fighting Irish’s second CCHA Championship title, having won their first in 2007, also over the Wolverines. In the Third Place game played this afternoon, the Northern Michigan Wildcats defeated the Alaska Nanooks 2-0.
Honored with CCHA all-tournament team recognition were Notre Dame forwards Ben Ryan and Calle Ridderwall, and Michigan's Louie Caporusso. Honors also went to defensemen Steve Kampfer of Michigan and ND's Ian Cole and goaltender Jordan Pearce. Pearce was also named tournament MVP.
The CCHA championship returns to Joe Louis Arena for the 2009-10 season of College Hockey at the Joe on March 19-20, 2010.
