Wings defenseman has surgery Wednesday for appendicitis

DETROIT -- Red Wings defenseman Jonathan Ericsson will not play in tonight’s Game 5 of the Western Conference finals against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Following today’s morning skate, Ericsson complained of abdominal pain and was taken to the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) for testing. He was diagnosed with acute appendicitis and underwent successful surgery this afternoon.
Ericsson is expected to return to action for Detroit’s next game.
