DETROIT – The Red Wings moved up eight spots to No. 4 in ESPN The Magazine’s seventh annual Ultimate Standings. The magazine used eight different criteria to rank the 122 teams in the four major sports.
The rankings measure how much NHL, MLB, NFL and NBA franchises give back to fans in exchange for all of the time, money and emotion that fans pour into them.
The Red Wings trailed only the Los Angeles Angels, Carolina Hurricanes and Pittsburgh Steelers in the overall rankings.
The Wings received No. 1 rankings in three categories: Title Track, Fan Relations and Ownership. Detroit also faired well with top 10 finishes in three other categories: Players (3), Coaching (6) and Bang for the Buck (10). They were No. 57 in Affordability and No. 82 in Stadium Experience.
The Red Wings came in at No. 12 in the 2008 ESPN survey.
