Hudler files for arbitration
Hudler, 25, was one of 20 players who filed for arbitration before Sunday night, and the lone Red Wing to do so. By filing for arbitration, the other 29 NHL clubs cannot give Hudler an offer sheet.
If the Red Wings decide to take Hudler to arbitration, both the Wings and Hudler will submit a salary figure, and an arbitrator will decide on either number or somewhere between. The NHL will hold arbitration hearings from July 20 to August 4.
Hudler recorded career-high totals in goals (23), assists (34) and points (57) last season. Over five NHL seasons, the Wings’ forward has 52 goals and 75 assists.
The Olomouc, Czech Republic native had four goals and eight assists in the 2009 Stanley Cup playoffs. He has nine goals and 19 assists in 51 career playoff games.
Red Wings general manager Ken Holland has never had an arbitration hearing in his time with the organization. Last season, he agreed to a five-year deal with Valtteri Filppula before the arbitration hearing date.
The last Red Wings' player to have an arbitration hearing was Ray Sheppard, in 1995.
