Wings sign Janik to one-year contract
Team adds depth to blue line with veteran defenseman

DETROIT -- The Red Wings announced today that the team has signed veteran defenseman Doug Janik to a one-year, two-way contract. In accordance with team policy, additional terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Janik, 29, appeared in 13 games for the Dallas Stars and two games for the Montreal Canadiens in 2008-09. He finished the season with one assist and four PIM.
Originally a second-round draft pick of the Buffalo Sabres in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Janik is entering his ninth professional season. The Agawam, Mass. native has played in 161 NHL games throughout his career, registering three goals, 13 assists and 123 PIM for the Sabres, Tampa Bay Lightning, Stars and Canadiens.
