DETROIT -- The Red Wings will honor legendary public address announcer Budd Lynch Thursday, November 5, as the Red Wings take on the San Jose Sharks at Joe Louis Arena (7:30 p.m. EST on FOX Sports Detroit & 97.1 The Ticket).
Fans are encouraged to arrive early for a special on-ice presentation honoring Lynch. All fans in attendance will receive a commemorative Budd Lynch bobblehead courtesy of Bank of America as they exit the arena.
Lynch began his career with the Wings at Olympia Stadium in 1949 as the team’s radio play-by-play announcer and also once spent time as the Red Wings’ director of publicity. He has served as the Wings’ public address announcer since 1985, the same year he received the Foster Hewett Memorial Trophy from the Hockey Hall of Fame for his outstanding contributions as a hockey broadcaster. Lynch is 92 years young and resides in the downriver Detroit area.
Single-game tickets for the entire 2009-10 season are available at the Joe Louis Arena Box Office, all TicketMaster locations including The Hockeytown Café, Hockeytown Authentics in Troy, or charge by phone at 800-745-3000. Fans also can purchase tickets by logging on to DetroitRedWings.com.
